Why I Love Hosting Watercolor Paint Parties

Participants painting at watercolor paint party led by Katherine Klimitas.

There are a lot of reasons I love hosting a paint party, but the biggest one is simple: paint parties bring people together.

I have always loved activities that give people a reason to gather, talk, laugh, and have a good time. A watercolor paint party does all of that while also giving people a chance to experience art in a way that feels approachable and fun.

Making Watercolor Less Intimidating

One of my favorite things about hosting a paint party is watching people realize that they really can paint.

Art can be intimidating, especially if you have never picked up a watercolor brush before. People sometimes arrive convinced that they are “not artistic” or that their painting is not going to turn out well.

But that is not what my paint parties are about.

I try to keep every watercolor paint party fun, loose, and relaxed. You do not need any previous painting experience, and there is no pressure to create a perfect copy of my painting.

If you want to learn more about watercolor techniques along the way, I am always happy to teach you. But the main point of the party is not to give you a strict art lesson. It is to have fun, try something creative, and hopefully leave feeling a little more confident about making art.

A Paint Party Is About More Than Painting

Of course, we paint, but there is usually plenty more happening around the table.

There is food. There are drinks. There is conversation. There is laughter.

As someone who is definitely a people person, I love getting the opportunity to meet new people and hear their stories. Some really interesting and unexpected conversations have happened during my paint parties.

There is something about sitting around a table and creating together that makes it easy to talk and connect. You might come with friends, family members, coworkers, or people you have never met before. By the end of the paint party, everyone has shared an experience.

That sense of connection is one of the reasons I continue to love teaching these events.

My Favorite Part of Every Paint Party

My absolute favorite moment comes at the end.

Everyone has a finished, or almost finished, watercolor painting in front of them. We hold them all up and take a group picture.

I love looking around and seeing how good all of the paintings look together. Even though everyone followed the same basic instructions and painted the same subject, every piece is a little different.

More importantly, everyone is proud of what they created.

Some people are genuinely surprised by their finished paintings. They came into the paint party thinking they could not paint, and suddenly they are holding up a piece of art that they made themselves.

That feeling never gets old for me.

Come Paint With Me

Whether you already enjoy painting or have never tried watercolor before, a paint party is a chance to get creative without taking yourself too seriously.

Come with friends, make it a family outing, plan a group activity, or just come ready to meet some new people. You will learn a little about watercolor, create your own painting to take home, and hopefully have a really good time doing it.

Because at the end of the day, my favorite paint parties are not really about creating the perfect painting.

They are about creating something together.
