Living with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (commonly known as Brittle Bone Disease) has shaped many aspects of my life, including my love for art, music, and unique experiences. As a disabled artist, I’ve always found joy and motivation in connecting with others, whether through my artwork or my passion for music. Over the past several years, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to meet a celebrity here and there—moments that have not only inspired my creativity but also affirmed my belief in the power of connection.
Here are my top five celebrity meetups, each a story of excitement, luck, and unforgettable memories.
5th Place: Harry Connick Jr.
Meeting Harry Connick Jr. at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival was a dream come true. My friend Christy and I knew where to stand to catch his attention, but we never imagined he’d invite us backstage. Spending ten minutes chatting with him (and meeting his dad!) was surreal. His genuine kindness and down-to-earth nature made this encounter unforgettable.
4th Place: Blake Shelton
During a trip to Nashville to explore opportunities in the music industry (which I love as much as art), Christy and I attended Blake Shelton’s concert. By sheer luck, we scored last-minute meet-and-greet passes from someone who couldn’t use them. Blake’s warmth and humor made a lasting impression. I even gifted him a copy of my art book, which I hope he read!
3rd Place: Little Big Town – “Day Drinking” Edition
As a massive fan of Little Big Town, I’ve had the privilege of meeting Karen, Kimberly, Jimi, and Phillip multiple times. One of the most memorable encounters was at Rock the South Festival, where Christy and I gifted them alcohol and treats themed around their song “Day Drinking.” Their laughter and appreciation for our antics made this meet-and-greet extra special.
2nd Place: Sugarland
Sugarland holds a special place in my heart, not just for their music but also for the memories. After a concert, Christy and I were unexpectedly taken backstage to meet Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush. Jennifer, who follows my art on Twitter, was gracious and kind, making the entire experience feel like a dream.
1st Place: Reba McEntire
Meeting Reba McEntire, my all-time favorite singer, was nothing short of magical. As someone who grew up listening to her music, this was a once-in-a-lifetime moment. Thanks to connections through the New Orleans Musicians Clinic (where I work), I had a private meet-and-greet with Reba before her Bayou Country Superfest performance. Her warmth and genuine interest in my story and art made me feel truly seen.
Motivation Through Connection
These celebrity encounters have been more than just fun; they’ve served as motivation and inspiration for me as an artist and music lover. Living with Brittle Bone Disease comes with its challenges, but moments like these remind me of the incredible possibilities that exist when you follow your passions.
Whether it’s through my art, my love of music, or these incredible meetups, I strive to inspire others in the art and disability community to embrace their unique journeys.
Honorable Mentions: Keith Urban, Wanda Sykes, Florida Georgia Line, and Brett Eldredge—each left their own special mark on my story.
